Research shows that patients can expect to lose about 15% of their total body weight over the course of 72 weeks versus the 20% lost during the same time frame with Tirzepatide. Regardless, every patient reacts differently to both meds – Semaglutide might work better for one patient versus a Tirzepatide protocol. The side effects, while similar, might be different between patients and this could affect individual commitment to reaching their weight-loss goals.
Both medications work – but if we’re looking at just the numbers then Tirzepatide is proven by research to be more effective at dropping pounds than its counterpart. That isn’t the end-all of choosing your medication. Tirzepatide is more expensive, and takes longer to work up to a higher dosage if you start at the standard 2.5mg/week protocol. There’s instances where Tirzepatide might induce harsher side effects on patients than Semaglutide – everyone reacts differently.
So should you use Semaglutide? If its more budget friendly, you plan to switch to a GLP-1 on a maintenance dose, or you’re familiar with the medication and how it works for you, then yes, this might be a good fit. But if you’ve tried compounded semaglutide or branded medication before and not seen results or have had your progress come to a halt then Tirzepatide might be a good alternative.
