Ideally, you want to store your medication in the fridge between 36°F and 46°F. However, even branded GLP-1 pens such as Ozempic® and Mounjaro® are fine to use even if left at room temperature for weeks.

That being said, there are other factors that can accelerate medication degrading, or destroy your medication. These include freezing temperatures, sunlight exposure for extended periods, and extreme heat. If you’re concerned about your GLP-1 medication being damaged look for visual indications such as discoloration or a “cloudy” appearance. Your vials should always be clear and colorless, and if upon inspection you notice anything else discard them immediately without using them.

What do I do if my medication arrives thawed?

The short answer: it’s probably fine. There’s nothing dangerous about using GLP-1 medication that arrives warm or at room temperature. We’ve tested the effectiveness and integrity of both Semaglutide and Tirzepatide at 120 degrees Fahrenheit for over three days and found an unmeasurable loss in quality.

That being said, once a vial has been unsealed and punctured you want to refrigerate it immediately and keep it that way for the duration of your protocol. It’s also recommended to keep additional vials or spares refrigerated too as the BUD is accurate per the medication being refrigerated upon its expected arrival. Do not leave a vial uncovered in direct sunlight for extended durations or freeze it.

There are also typically visual indications of medication “expiring” such as appearing cloudy or colored. Effective and good to use GLP-1 should always appear clear and colorless.

So how should GLP-1 medication be stored?

If you want your BUD to be accurate, or if you plan on storing it sealed for extended periods it’s usually recommended to keep your medication refrigerated between 36°F and 46°F degrees fahrenheit. But if you forget to put your vial back in the fridge don’t fret; It’s still good to use. That being said, never freeze your meds. This will at best make them less effective and at worst destroy them.

Traveling can be very tricky with GLP-1 meds without using insulated packaging, and since at TRYM we also love to travel, we’ve updated our packaging to include a specialized and temperature monitored insulated thermos. New orders posted from July 29th onwards will include our new branded packaging at no extra charge. We hope that this will ensure medications arrive cold and ready to use, while also allowing you to go on vacation without having to worry about loose or heated medications while in transit.
